That’s the elevator pitch for Wardens of the Veil, the horror-thriller series from Kris Burgos set in a world where ghost sightings have become an everyday, increasingly violent occurrence, the authorities are out of their depth, and vigilante spirit-hunters are in high demand.

The premiere issue follows two members of one such team — the Wardens — as they face a friend whose family is being haunted by their dead babysitter. A ghost story built like a mystery, it sets up a street-level cast fighting to hold the line between worlds with brutal, grounded stakes.

The issue was co-published by Tales Beyond and Buddy Scalera’s B-Line Comics, with an afterword by Marvel’s Darren Sanchez, pencils by Jarrod Elvin, inks by Matthew Seaborne, and colors by Rodrigo Otäguro bringing the haunted-house dread to life.
